Affixes (parts that are stuck on to roots) are either prefixes (stuck on before the root) or postfixes (also called suffixes) (stuck on after the root).
Prefix
example: mal_ opposite (It does not necessarily mean bad like it does in Spanish!)
malrapide | slowly |
malsilenta bela birdo flugis rapide | a raucous beautiful bird flew rapidly |
silenta malbela birdo flugis rapide | a silent ugly bird flew rapidly |
silenta bela birdo flugis malrapide | a silent beautiful bird flew slowly |
Postfix
example: _et_ diminutive
birdeto = little bird
example: _eg_ augmentative
birdego = big bird
