WELCOME TO ESPERANTO Beginning Esperanto (3 units)

Training in standard spoken and written Esperanto for students new to the language, along with an introduction to the history of the language, its present scope and associated ideals. Some discussion of the use of Esperanto for international and intercultural communication, particularly in travel, education and literature. Provides an adequate background for teachers intending to introduce Esperanto in elementary school enrichment programs. Tuition: $900.

GAINING CONFIDENCE IN ESPERANTO Intermediate Esperanto I (3 units)

For those who have made an initial study of Esperanto. The emphasis is on conversational ability, increasing knowledge of structure and vocabulary, and familiarity with background knowledge and situations typical of intercultural encounters in Esperanto. Some aspects of Esperanto's history and culture will be discussed in more detail. Tuition: $900

ESPERANTO IN INTERCULTURAL PRACTICE Intermediate Esperanto II (3 units)

For students with the ability to understand and participate in class sessions conducted entirely in Esperanto. A broad range of activities is used to develop language skills and proficiency along with the cultural knowledge and attitudes needed to use Esperanto effectively for many different purposes. Tuition: $900.

LANGUAGE, LINGUISTICS, CULTURE, LITERATURE Advanced Esperanto (3 units)

This course addresses the needs of advanced students in a variety of areas, including the linguistics of Esperanto, advanced language skills (translating, interpreting, composition, oratory), Esperanto literature, and social, cultural and political aspects of the Esperanto community. This varied focus is especially useful for those preparing to teach or to take advanced examinations in Esperanto. Tuition: $900

ELNA/ESF Scholarships

Students and teachers can receive partial financial support for fees and housing. Clubs and individuals are invited to recommend students for advanced studies. Interested students and teachers should write in Esperanto, giving their Esperanto histories (study, teaching, and club activity) to Ellen Eddy.

Enrichment Opportunities

Various evening and weekend activities afford opportunities to informally explore many aspects of Esperanto language and culture. These may include study groups, games, group singing, cultural presentations, slide shows, poetry readings, public speaking, intercultural discussions, picnics, and field trips.
